Also ! Here is a peek at what I've been doing in ceramics class. Theses are some experiment with raku firing (after your pieces are bisqued and glazed, you have to fire them in a small kiln outdoors: when it's done, they're thrown into sawdust and then into cold water). I knew absolutely NOTHING about ceramics before taking this class and didn't know what to expect with the outcome. I very much like raku, i feel it's very close to science and nature in a way, which I'm all into at the moment.

Hello there, it's been a while. This morning, as an ultimate procrastination act and instead of starting my readings early for my History of architecture class, I decided that I wanted to update this poor blog a little bit.
This semester for a change, I am taking a painting class and one for ceramics, which are two subject I am really unfamiliar with. It's also the kind of practise that is kind of a slow process compared to what I'm used to, but very fun though. Anyway I hope I will be able to share pictures of what I'm doing soon :)

I also figured I should share with you a few of my favorite pictures of the moment, as an inspiration board. I feel like it is representing my obessions and taste at the moment, and where I would want to be creatively.

Volcanoes. I don't know why I feel so excited by them. They symbolise danger and force and mystery. I feel like a volcano is also quite metaphorical and a true work of art from nature.

David Lynch! Twin Peaks! It seems like popular interest is rising for theses at the moment, which is awesome because each and everyone of us should know about it.

By the way I could not spare you from this AMAZING picture that reminded me of The man from another place in Twin Peaks. Best picture ever ? Yes.

Observation drawing in public spaces is so hard especially if you don't want to be noticed by the people you are drawing ! I'm trying to do more of this at the moment and put my shyness aside.

About a month ago I was asked to make a small pamphlet for a cultural event in my hometown and I could do whatever I wanted with the design! As we didn't have pictures, I made all of the illustrations including the background pattern with elements that are in relation to the event itself. It was also my first time making a detailed map of something, so I've learnt a lot in this project and I think that I'm quite satisfied with the final result !

It all started 2 years ago, when MJ died (ps: may he rest in peace). I made a little commemorative montage of me and him and put it as my profile picture on facebook. The reactions and comments where good, and since then I've been making new profile pictures montages a few times a year, expressing my likings of the moment. When I look at them all together, they make me smile and I kind of want to keep a track of them! I was a bit shy to share them with the rest of the internet, but why not? It's another part of my creative self.

Inspiration: Coney Island

The 3rd day I was in NYC, me and my travel buddy took the subway from Manhattan to Coney Island. We were still trying to understand this complex system of transportation (far more than the one we have in Montreal!) so we got lost but got there eventually. Like, 2 hours later instead of 45 minutes. Well I don't regret this small misadventure because it was beautiful and enchanting and also the first time I've seen the sea in my life. I also had a hard time choosing what I would eat for lunch there, before finally settling down to bacon cheese fries, which reminds me a bit of our beloved poutine here in Quebec. And I have to confess, I still prefer poutine !

Inspiration: the American Museum of Natural History

The main thing I wanted to visit before going to New York was the American Museum of Natural History, which I believe is the biggest natural history museum in America. It really doesn't dissapoint and I strongly suggest the Biodiversity section (my favorite, pictured above!). In fact, I decided that I literally want to LIVE there. If you arein NYC area and you have plenty of time on your hands (not like me when I was there), do what I wish I did: sit and draw the taxidermied animals, read carefully all the informations, and take notes :)

How are you, dear readers? Me, real good. I don't know about you, but a small heatwave is happening right there, but it doesn't matter to me as I'm on vacation from work for two weeks and finalizing my graphic design contract as we speak. To celebrate this unexpected break, I will be heading to New York city on sunday morning with my crafty travel pal Bird. We haven't planned anything really, it all went so fast! We spoke about our desire to leave quickly and booked our tickets 2 days later. I'll make sure to post pictures once we're back :) If you have any suggestions of innexpensive things to do, or want to meet with us, we will be delighted :)

Parts of a series of illustrations done for uni - different views of a volcano, painted in watercolors. I had done watercolors before but never pushed this far with so many layering and playing around. Overall I am quite proud of the final pieces except maybe the last one that lacks something but I'm not sure what exactly..):) I will definitly get back to the medium in the future.

My first video (I had to make this for uni over the weekend, well we had a month to make one but I did it last minute obviously) I'm not really sure about the meaning of it? To be honnest, pretty much all of it is improvisation, but I like to think that the little fish falls asleep in the begining with the arrival of the pink paper boat and dreams about this psychedelic scene. When he wakes up his little boat is leaving.
Also, I had two black moor fishes and they died within a week of me getting them. So this is kind of an hommage too.

So theses are prints I've made in my silkscreen print course last semester, I have 6 of each to sell and you can get them for a decent price at my etsy shop (I know they are in no way conform to what is supposed to be PERFECT silkscreen printing, hence the low prices!). i'm taking a silkscreen print class in uni & this is the first one i did! oh man. i used to do print in college too and i've never really been much of a perfectionnist so i always have this feeling that my prints are a mess. this one is in the batch of the ones i've messed up, but honestly the good ones aren't really different! still, i kind of like it? it reminds me of really simple vintage storybook illustrations. & i like prints that are offset even if the point of printmaking is to make perfect prints!

i got this nice commission request a few weeks ago saying "i know it's not your usual style but i'm asking anyway" the request was for a portrait of football manager Bill Shankly. this seemed to me like a nice opportunity to draw something i'm not very familiar with and i was so glad someone trusted my aptitudes enough to request something i've never drawn before!
in the end, i had a lot of fun doing this :)

i doodled this in a very short amount of time and then i thought: this will be my quickest "detailed" coloration (when i first started coloring my illustrations digitally, it could take 30 to 60 minutes, but as i progress, add a few more hours). well, in the end it wasn't very quick, but what mathers most is the result i guess :)

hey there :) i'm not dead, not yet. i'm still working on comissioned pieces and enjoying the summer, but not for long. i will start uni in 2 weeks and i'm eagerly waiting for it! even it will be lots of hard work, i think i will still be able to find the time to update and even submit more art, as i will be doing this all day everyday!thought i've been trying to do this at home for 2 years now, i find it hard to stay focused and i think being surrounded by creative minds will only help me become a better artist :)

this innitially started as a doodle in my sketchbook, and progressed as a normal illustration. it took forever to do the colouring (mostly because i knew all the little elements would take long and it made me procrastinate..) but once i started working on it it went well and fast! i think i'm going to use this as a birthday card or a baby shower card (in this case, the text will be changed)
and it's also a way to wish all of us a happy birthday (but mostly people born in june, because there is so much people i know that are dear to me and that are born this coming month!)

something a bit different!
as some of you may know, i studied graphic design in college (and worked for a few months in a graphic design agency where my task was to do funeral cards..)
after this traumatizing experience, i've left my job and did freelance projects. this is one that i'm really dedicated to. FAST, which is short for "Festival des arts de Sorel-Tracy", is a local art festival created by cool, dynamic and friendly people that kindly asked me to be their graphic designer for the whole event last year. this was last year's poster. this year, they had something specific in mind and wanted to go somewhere else completely, a great occasion for me to check if i could step out of my comfort zone. i scanned lots of textures, made a collage with purple paper, photographed it, played with it on photoshop.. it was fun :) next step: a pamphlet, a second poster and a schedule later in the summer!

i'm currently trying to work on bigger canvas (26x36 cm) which isn't so challenging, but when it comes to uploading it to the computer, i have to either take a bad picture of it, or scan it and crop it. i decided to do that last option.
